Scammers are becoming more sophisticated every day, and it can sometimes be difficult to tell what is real and what is not. At TRU FCU, protecting our members is one of our top priorities, and we want to help you recognize common warning signs before fraud happens.
TRU FCU will NEVER:
- Send you a text message asking for your username or password
- Ask for your online banking login credentials through text or email
- Ask you to click a suspicious link to “verify” your account
- Request sensitive information through unsolicited messages

If you ever receive a message claiming to be from TRU FCU asking for this information, do not respond.
Watch for These Warning Signs
Fraudulent messages often include:
- Misspelled words or poor grammar
- Urgent language such as:
- “Act immediately”
- “Your account will be locked”
- “Click now to avoid suspension”
- Links that look similar to our website but are fake
- Requests for personal or banking information
Scammers are very good at making fake websites and messages appear legitimate. Even if a text or email says “TRU FCU,” it does not always mean it is actually from us.
Don’t Click Unfamiliar Links
One of the safest things you can do is avoid clicking links in unexpected messages from unexpected senders.
Instead:
- Visit our website directly by typing the address yourself
- Call us directly using the number on our official website or your card
- Contact our team if something feels suspicious
How Our Fraud Department Works

We do have a fraud department that monitors suspicious activity to help protect your accounts.
If unusual card activity is detected:
- A fraud representative may call you
- If they cannot reach you, your card may be temporarily turned off as a safety precaution
- Your card can only be reactivated after you contact us directly
This helps protect your account from unauthorized transactions.
Legitimate Reasons We May Contact You
You may receive legitimate calls or texts from TRU FCU regarding:
- Loan payment reminders
- ACH or account-related questions
- Verification of recent transactions
- Suspicious card activity from our fraud department
If you are ever unsure whether a communication is legitimate, hang up and call us directly using a trusted phone number.
